Zimbabwe’s music scene is rapidly evolving, with young artistes forging their own paths rather than waiting for opportunities. Seventeen-year-old Bulawayo singer Liora Music (Fadzai Liora Masunda) marks her official debut with the captivating single “Ngathemba Wena”, released in celebration of International Women’s Month.

Hailing from the City of Kings, Liora Music, who is juggling her A-Level studies with burgeoning musical ambitions, steps confidently onto the stage with a clear mission: to conquer the game.

“Ngathemba Wena” serves as a powerful first statement, firmly rooted in the increasingly popular 3-step sound – a rhythmic subgenre of Amapiano known for its groove and emotive depth. The track is now available across all major streaming platforms.

Produced by Da_Kudu at Afrojams Studios, the track showcases Liora’s signature “hauntingly sweet vocals” layered over sophisticated 3-step rhythms. Lyrically, “Ngathemba Wena” delves into universal themes of love, trust, and commitment, capturing the heartfelt plea of a young woman seeking reassurance from her partner.

The song thoughtfully incorporates conversations around the promise of dowry (“roora/lobola”), presenting it as a cultural symbol of sincerity and serious intention within the relationship.

“I’m happy to finally give my fans something to shout about. This is just the beginning. I have a lot more music coming, and there’s an EP in the pipeline as well. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on,” shared an excited Liora Music, speaking about her debut.

A product of Bongo Love Music International and citing South African superstar Thatohatsi as a key inspiration, Liora Music is rapidly building her repertoire.

With several more singles slated for release and an EP in development, she is positioning herself as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising new voices. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
