EVERTON Mlalazi’s birthday turned into a spiritual earthquake in Bulawayo as more than 8 000 gospel lovers packed the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre for the debut Ekhaya Music Festival, and the man himself is overflowing with gratitude!
“Bulawayo, your support humbled me. Thank you, ngiyabonga,” the gospel powerhouse wrote on his Facebook page after the event.
Held on Africa Day, the festival went beyond being just a praise party. It kicked off with a free health expo, before the stage exploded with soul-shaking gospel anthems from some of the region’s biggest stars.
South Africa’s Spirit of Praise giants — Canaan Nyathi, Omega Khunou, Xolisa Kwinana, and Sbu Noah of Joyous Celebration — rocked the stage alongside Once More Six, Reality 7, Takesure Zamar Ncube, and Mkhululi Bhebhe.
Local fire came through too, with Mai Mwamuka, Pastor Barak, Lorraine Maplanka, Vusa Mangena, Conquerors Afrika, Vocal Ex, Revealed, Snowy, and VOP Music lighting up the crowd and proving that Bulawayo’s gospel scene is alive and loud!
Speaking at the event, Mlalazi said Ekhaya Festival is a vision for economic revival and spiritual connection.
“We worked with several partners and companies. The health expo was a blessing. People were checked and received free medication,” he said.
“This is a festival that will grow, bringing investment, hope, and opportunities to the people of Bulawayo.”
And grow it must! Because the crowd was so massive, organisers are now eyeing an outdoor summer edition next year!
From music to medicine, worship to wellness, the Ekhaya Festival has stamped itself as a new gospel juggernaut. Mlalazi is not stopping after the epic success, he jets off to the UK this weekend, joining Takesure Zamar, Snowy, and Canaan Nyathi at The Grateful Experience in Birmingham.
Bulawayo brought the fire. Mlalazi lit the torch. The gospel wave is just beginning.
