BULAWAYO will today roll out the red carpet for Comrades Marathon star Nobukhosi Nobuhle Tshuma as the city stages a grand homecoming celebration in honour of one of Zimbabwe’s finest long-distance runners.

The day-long festivities are set to begin with a reception at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, where Tshuma will be welcomed by running clubs, supporters, officials and stakeholders before embarking on a celebratory motorcade to Makokoba Township, the suburb that nurtured her athletics journey.

The programme will also see the Comrades heroine visit the Joshua Nkomo Statue in the city centre and the Joshua Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlophe before celebrations move to Bulawayo City Hall for an official ceremony attended by civic leaders and athletics stakeholders.

Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart is expected to present a commemorative citation in recognition of Tshuma’s exploits, while athletes who participated in the 2026 Comrades Marathon will provide guards of honour in their distinctive red regalia.

The event is expected to attract athletics enthusiasts, civic leaders and members of the public eager to celebrate a woman whose achievements have brought pride to Bulawayo and inspired a new generation of Zimbabwean runners.

Tshuma’s achievements on the international stage have elevated Zimbabwe’s profile in long-distance running and reinforced Bulawayo’s reputation as a breeding ground for some of the country’s finest athletes.
