THE City of Bulawayo is set to market its vast investment, trade and tourism potential at the 28th edition of the Arab-African Investment and International Cooperation Conference and Exhibition to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from October 19 to 22.
The high-profile event, organised by the Arab Women Investors Union in partnership with the Government of Egypt and other institutions, provides a vital platform for strengthening trade ties, attracting investment and fostering cooperation between the Arab world and other friendly nations.
Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube is expected to lead the city’s delegation.
According to the latest Bulawayo City Council agenda, Town Planning Director Mr Wisdom Siziba informed the General Purposes Committee that Minister Ncube had extended an invitation for the local authority to join her delegation.
Working closely with the Government under the Second Republic, the city is harnessing every opportunity to position itself as the leading investment and industrial centre with a focus on expanding production, widening job opportunities, and growing export earnings
Mr Siziba said Bulawayo’s participation would enable the city to tap into several strategic benefits aimed at driving growth, development, and cooperation while enhancing its visibility on the global stage.
“Networking Opportunities: Connected with high-level representatives from countries, civil society organisations, associations, federations, and business councils to build relationships and potential partnerships.
“Investment and Trade: Showcased local investment opportunities, products, and services to attract foreign investment and promote trade exchange between the Arab region, Africa, and friendly countries,” reads part of the report.
The report also noted additional benefits for the city.
“Tourism Promotion: Highlighted local tourism attractions and potential, fostering cooperation and exchange in the sector.
“Knowledge Sharing: Gained insights from experts and thought leaders on development sectors, sustainable growth, and innovative practices.
“Cultural Exchange: Engaged with diverse stakeholders, promoting cultural understanding and exchange.”
Assistant Director of Town Planning, Ms Sehlile Ndlovu, has been seconded to represent the council at the event.
“She would make a presentation on ‘Investment Opportunities presented by the City of Bulawayo Master Plan’, as such information was considered key in empowering women in business,” the report noted.
“As a participant, she would have an opportunity to connect with high-level representatives and gain insights from experts and thought leaders on development issues, which knowledge was key for the development of the city,” it added.
The city’s participation is expected to position Bulawayo as a competitive investment destination while strengthening its ties with the Arab and African business communities.
