A 32-year-old Bulawayo woman has appeared in court for allegedly pouring hot oil on her 31-year-old husband’s face and left arm after he is said to have chosen to sleep on the floor following a misunderstanding.

Edina Nyenda, of Luveve suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of physical abuse.
She was remanded in custody to May 19 while awaiting a medical report, as the complainant is still admitted in hospital.

Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the accused person is the complainant’s wife.
He said that on May 9, 2026, at around 2am, Charles Ncube (31), who had been sleeping on the bed, changed positions and moved to sleep on the floor as they were having a misunderstanding with his wife.

The court heard that this did not go down well with Nyenda, who then allegedly boiled cooking oil and poured it on Ncube’s face and left arm.

The complainant sustained burns to the face and left arm and was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
A police report was made, leading to the accused person’s arrest, said Mr Dzimbanhete.
