In a bold display of solidarity, the Youth Power Group (YPG) joined forces with the National AIDS Council to intensify the fight against HIV and AIDS, particularly among young people, at the annual event held at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre today.
The Youth Power Group, a faith-based non-profit organisation, has been at the forefront of nurturing the minds and spirits of young people in the community.
By catering to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of youths, the organisation aims to equip them with the necessary tools to become better and more responsible adults, ultimately contributing to the development of a more compassionate and productive society.
Speaking to Sunday News, the Youth Power Group Coordinator Mr Michael Tshuma was effusive in his praise for the National AIDS Council (NAC) for hosting the annual event, which he described as a vital platform for educating young people about the dangers of contracting HIV and AIDS.
Mr Tshuma commended the NAC for its tireless efforts in promoting HIV and AIDS awareness, prevention, and treatment, ultimately working towards achieving an HIV-free Zimbabwe by 2030.
“The NAC is doing a great job educating people about HIV and AIDS and this is good for the Youth to hear because they are the ones who are largely responsible for building an HIV-free Zimbabwe in the upcoming years,” said Mr Tshuma
The Coordinator noted that the NAC’s initiatives have been instrumental in empowering young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their sexual health, and to adopt behaviors that reduce their risk of contracting HIV.
By supporting events like these, the Youth Power Group aims to reinforce the NAC’s message and contribute to the national goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
Mr Tshuma said that the Youth Power Group is also working tirelessly to educate and inform the youth to make sound decisions based on the Word of God.
“We advise the youth to make informed decisions especially when it comes to pleasing sexual desires. We actually do not allow them to take part in any sexual activities as we believe that that is what pleases God and it can effectively help in establishing an HIV-free country in the upcoming years,” said Mr Tshuma.
Mr Tshuma proudly announced that their organization successfully mobilized a remarkable turnout of over 100 youths to attend the HIV awareness event in a resounding testament to their unwavering dedication to empowering young people.
“The YPG effort of mobilizing quite a number of youths to attend this event, serves as a powerful indicator of the group’s unrelenting commitment to nurturing a generation of young people who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed choices about their health, wellbeing and spirituality,” said Mr Tshuma.
Mr Tshuma said that by actively engaging with the youth and providing them with a platform to access critical information and resources, the Youth Power Group is playing a vital role in helping to eliminate the deadly HIV disease and create a brighter, healthier future for all.
“Our goal is to see a generation of young people living disease-free lives using their bodies in a way that pleases God, and we are willing to do whatever it takes to make that vision a reality,” said Mr Tshuma.
