Bulawayo’s iconic 6th Avenue comes alive on stage this weekend as Mphala Media presents a powerful play exploring the avenue’s daily struggles and complex realities.
The production will be showcased at Bulawayo Theatre on Friday and Saturday, with both shows starting at 6pm. Featuring a talented cast including Londile Mlotshwa, Chelesile Mpofu, and Nomvuyiso Mabi, “6th Avenue” is written by Thulani Mbambo and Sipho Kamanga and directed by Scrah Mudala.
Mudala explained that the play follows a street vendor on trial for homicide, unravelling intense themes of justice and morality. “’6th Avenue’ is a gripping drama that delves into the struggle for survival amid societal pressures. The story centres on a vendor who faces a homicide trial, raising questions about justice in an unforgiving world,” he said.
With standout performances by Mabi, Mpofu, and Mlotshwa, the narrative sheds light on urban life’s challenges, especially for those living on the margins.
“The characters navigate personal and communal conflicts, inviting the audience to reflect on the larger implications of their choices,” Mudala added.
As the trial unfolds, “6th Avenue” challenges viewers to consider the true meaning of justice in a world marked by inequality.
“Through poignant storytelling and evocative performances, ‘6th Avenue’ promises to leave a lasting impact,” said Mudala.
