VILLAGERS in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province should utilise their communal land and implement all year round agricultural activities in order to improve their food security, Bulilima legislator Cde Dingumuzi Phuti has said.
Cde Phuti made the remarks after a tour during a field day event held at Mr and Mrs Ndlovu homestead in Ngwala village, Huwana Ward 8 on Wednesday.
The Ndlovu family is undertaking an agricultural project which runs through out the year where they plant various crops. Currently they have harvested one hectare of maize, half hectare of groundnuts. Another one hectare of maize and one hectare of groundnuts is still under production.

The family also has a tree plantation that includes bananas, guava, lemon, peaches, avocado and paw paw. They also rear chickens.
Cde Phuti said villagers should emulate such projects as they help keep the peace in communities.
“Since time immemorial we have known that grievances and war erupted from hunger. Communities would invade each other all in search of food and livestock.
“If we are to copy what the Ndlovu family is doing here, we are creating a peaceful society thus l urge each and everyone in Bulilima to learn from this agricultural model, let’s use the land in our communities and have viable projects which in turn result to food security,” said Cde Phuti.

Cde Phuti hailed the Second Republic for putting priority on the Agriculture Ministry which is working tirelessly to improve the sector.
“I would like to thank President Dr ED Mnangagwa who has worked so hard for people and such achievements are seen with the revived work of the Agriculture Ministry where there are rebranded to adhere to climate change.
“They have worked to see how the land can be utilized from time of pre Independence, coming of technology as food security is the first security,” said Cde Phuti.
