BULILIMA and Mangwe Districts have each been allocated more than 1 000 tonnes of farm inputs under the Presidential Input Scheme for the 2013-2014 agricultural season. In an interview last Friday, the District Administrator for Bulilima, Mrs Ethel Moyo said the distribution will start soon in Gwambe area.

She said distribution will start on Saturday in Ward 2 area which is Gwambe. The ward has been allocated five tonnes of seed maize, 13 tonnes of compound SD fertiliser and 12 tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

Mrs Moyo said a ward committee had been selected in each area which would be responsible for the distribution of the inputs.
“A ward committee has been appointed in each ward and it is being chaired by the councillor of that area. It coordinates the distribution of inputs at ward level,” said Mrs Moyo.

Addressing villagers in Figtree are on Wednesday she urged farmers to complement Government efforts by maximising production on the farms they were allocated.

“The Government is issuing you with inputs and your task is to prove that you deserve to be on the farms you were allocated by fully utilising the land. The inputs that you will receive are for you to plant and not to sell. We have to prove that we are able to manage the farms that we were given,” she said

Under the programme each household is allocated 10 kg of seed maize, 50kg of compound D fertiliser and 50 kg of ammonium nitrate.
