ARMED robbers stormed Sai Mart Supermarket in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane 12 suburb in a daring midmorning heist and vanished with over US$2 000, after firing a warning shot that sent shoppers and staff diving for cover.
The gang, believed to be three men, struck with chilling precision. One stood guard at the entrance, another fired a shot into the air, and the third raided the tills.
“They didn’t hurt anyone, but they made off with just over two thousand dollars,” said one of the shop managers, still shaken by the ordeal.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and said homicide detectives are on the case.
This is not the first time Sai Mart has been targeted. In February, alert New Lobengula residents foiled a robbery attempt at another branch. In December, three gun-toting criminals stormed Choppies Supermarket in New
Luveve and escaped with an undisclosed amount after firing shots.
As police hunt down the latest gang, they are grappling with a rising trend of daylight robberies in Bulawayo.
