Bulls, Motor Action share spoils

assignments FC Platinum had been held 1-1 at home by Harare City.

In fact the 2011 league runners-up have now gone for five games without a win.

The Zvishavane side were also dealt a blow last week when their  coach Tennant Chilumba resigned from the club and returned to his native Zambia to take charge of Power Dynamos. It was Chikuni’s first match in charge since he was thrust into a caretaker coach’s role and he made some changes with Francis Tizayi getting the the nod ahead of Petros Mhari in goal.

Mhari had kept the goals in the short Chilumba era.

Yesterday’s clash was also a match-up of teams that have endured a winless streak of late.

FC Platinum’s last win was against Tripple B on May 4, while Motor Action also last won last month when they beat Shabanie Mine 2-1.

Mighty Bulls coach Joey Antipas missed the match as he is reportedly not feeling wel and his assistant David George who took charge of the team reckoned that the draw was a fair result.

“We got a point. We can’t complain. The strikers left their football boots at home. I think we played well today compared to our last match before the break,” said George.
Chikuni was however, not too amused by referee Pedzisayi Chadya whom he felt had denied them a penalty at the end of the match.

“It wasn’t a fair result for us. In the first half, we failed to adjust to the pitch which was hard and bumpy and struggled to play our normal game.

“I never complain about referees but this is pathetic. In the second half, the last man in defence got a yellow card after a foul. And in the last minute, it was a clear penalty on our side but instead we got a yellow card. The referees should do a good job and handle matches well.

“Anyway l give credit to the boys. The players wanted to win as they were coming from a draw against Harare City in our last match.

“It is a worrying situation for us if the other teams are winning and we are not. We need to win as well and keep up with others,” said Chikuni.

In thisotherwise dull match, both teams had some chances to score.

The hosts forward Dylan Chivandire was rather too slow to connect with a fine delivery from Edward Tembo after some good play by the team in the 44th minute.

Motor Action were then forced to make a change to theirgoalkeeper in the 65th minute after veteran Marlon Jani limped out.

Former CAPS United goalkeeper Itai Chiwara then replaced Jani but still FC Platinumcould not find a breakthrough.

FC Platinum striker Charles Sibanda also saw his curling shot in the 26th minute slightly missed the target while Joel Ngodzo also watched in agony minutes earlier, as his long range shot was saved by Jani.

Zambian Obrey Chirwa was also guilty of missing some clear chances for the visitors after he came on in the second period.

The stocky forward however seemed hard done by the referee when he was booked for simulation  aftertumbling under a challenge.
