cool teens as the holidays are almost coming to an end, is discussing bullying so that Cool teens can participate in the May World Mental Health Awareness campaign.
Bullying is one of the causes of mental illness.
As the saying goes, love makes the world go round may seem like a cliché since the earth is definitely not flat and it is not covered in roses and candy cane.
It is a pity that when reality strikes, we wake up from this fantasy world to be gripped by realities that paint the world dull and gloomy.
One such thing that taints the beautiful world we live in is bullying. To define bullying simply would be aggressive behaviour directed to an individual or a group that is in a vulnerable position with a clear intention to inflict hurt.
Inasmuch as these misfits also known as bullies of the world could go round throwing their weight around, their actions of bullying will never make them bigger boys or girls but pathetic and weak.
Studies show that at least every person experiences some form of bullying in life.
Bullying is in many different spaces, in the home there could be sibling bullying or it can occur among the adults.
There are also the famous schoolyard bullies. This leaves only three groups of people — the perpetrators, the victims and the passive participants – who witness bullying and do nothing to stop it, making them just as good as the perpetrators.
Technology has not left bullying lagging behind. Social networks have aided the youth in sharing pictures, videos that have a bullying effect especially on social networks and apps.
This problem is of grave consequences. Medical expert Dr Ngoni stressed how victims of bullying tend to suffer from anti-social behaviours. He said they are usually left scared physically and emotionally.
“The dire effects of bullying are visible at times. A victim may become withdrawn and is found wallowing in isolation in cases of anti-social behaviour.
“In other instances they can become wild and present a very dark persona that can be seen by changes. The changes could be noticed in their dressing, they could even act tough and violent in an effort to avoid being found in a vulnerable position again,” he said.
Over the years, many have been hospitalised after having been physically assaulted by bullies. Other results of bullying are clinical depression. When left untreated most victims end up committing suicide.
It is important that when one finds themselves in the circle of bullying especially on the receiving end, it is imperative to find someone to confide in.
Talking is a starting point. A suggestion would be to a friend or an adult that can listen and help by giving objective advice.
Cool Lifestyle is always waiting for you to get in touch should you need any help. A suggestion could be to assist you on how to get in touch with counselling services that are available.
Should that seem like a long process you are welcome to walk into a clinic near you and ask to speak to see a counsellor.
Enjoy the remainder of your holiday.
