Burglars break into Regional Court

The Judicial Service Commission is investigating if there were no dockets and criminal records stolen after unknown assailants broke into the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Thursday night.

The assailants stole a computer and a printer from the reception area.

Court business was delayed for more than three hours yesterday as police details from the Criminal Investigations Department, Duty Uniform Branch and the Dog Section were attending the scene.

Chief Magistrate Mr Mishrod Guvamombe confirmed the burglary in an interview with The Herald yesterday.

“I can confirm that on Thursday evening a computer desktop and a printer valued at $1 500 were stolen after unkown assailants broke into the Regional Magistrate’s Court reception,” he said.

Mr Guvamombe said the burglars removed window panes at the court’s entrance to gain entry before proceeding to the reception area.

He said the window panes were found placed in a corner on the building’s 5th floor, meaning that the assailants had time to move around the building.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the burglary saying investigations were in progress.
