Bus crew denied bail

South Africa-bound bus were yesterday denied bail.
Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndi-rowei threw out the application by the four saying they were a flight risk.

However, their five accomplices were granted US$200 bail each and ordered to surrender their passports.
David Tauro (41) and Timothy Mauru (46) of Greyhound, Munyaradzi Bhobho (36), Memory Mahachi (34) were denied bail while Desmon Madzikeyi (32), Jonathan Makaza (29), Vincent Muzuwa (35), Clever Zvarova and Bridget Mapiye (39) are now out of custody pending trial.

They are being charged with contravening sections of the Electricity Act. They are also being charged under the Protection of Power, Communication and Water Infrastructure Act and the Copper Control Act.
The complainants in the case are Zesa and TelOne.

Prosecutor Mr Tapiwa Kasema alleges that on September 12 detectives from the Minerals Unit were tipped that a Greyhound bus registration number VFX 1909 GP with a trailer XYM 4439 GP bound for South Africa was carrying a load of stolen copper cables.

The detectives went to the Waterfalls tollgate where they intercepted the bus that was being driven by Mauru.
Police, it is alleged, searched the trailer and recovered 19 neatly packed sacks and five travelling bags with bent Zesa and TelOne cables.
