BUSINESSMAN Simon Rudland, who operates a multi-million-dollar cigarette manufacturing plant and logistics enterprises in Harare, said he has no ambitions of joining active politics, stressing that his focus remains on developing his professional and commercial interests locally and internationally.

Mr Rudland, whose Cut Rag Processors (Private) Limited plant was commissioned by President Mnangagwa in November last year, has recently been the subject of discussion and headlines across mainstream and social media platforms over the past two weeks on his alleged ambitions to join politics.

He said much of the information circulating was misinformation and disinformation, lacking truth and without efforts by those spreading it to verify facts with him.

“I have noted the recent social media speculation suggesting that I intend to enter the political arena and participate in upcoming elections,” he said.

“I would like to categorically state that these assertions are not true. I am, and remain, a businessman with a clear focus on my professional and commercial interests. I have no ambitions whatsoever to pursue political office at this time.”

Mr Rudland said some sections had misconstrued his political affiliation as an indication of ambitions to hold public office, describing this as “unfortunate”.

“While I am a supporter of ZANU PF, my support should not be misconstrued as an indication of political aspirations,” he said.

“Like many citizens, I reserve the right to support a political party of my choice, but that does not translate into an intention to actively seek a role within political leadership structures.

“It is unfortunate that such narratives are being circulated, and they may be driven by speculation, misinformation, or attempts to draw public attention.

“I encourage the public and media to rely on verified information and to avoid amplifying unfounded claims. My focus remains on business, economic contribution, and creating value in the sectors I am involved in.”
