Business people invited to register for AGOA forum

This year’s theme will be “Enhancing Africa’s Infrastructure for Trade” as the ministerial portion of the forum will be focusing on infrastructure development that promotes trade growth in Africa.

In an interview, CBC secretary general Mr Trust Chikohora said the forum was an opportunity for businesses to source foreign investment.

“As a Government we will not be represented because Zimbabwe is not on AGOA but as businesses we can still attend under Comesa.

“This is a chance to mix with the American businesses hence connecting and creating ties with them,” he said.

He said CBC had signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the Corporate Council for Africa (CCA) to allow match making between businesses from Africa and US.

“What is happening at the moment is just the implementation of the MoU that we signed in Zambia last year with CCA.

“Businesses will enjoy match makings because we will take company profiles and the American companies will identify African companies they will be interested in working with hence it’s an opportunity for Zimbabwean companies,” Mr Chikohora said.

He called on businesses to join the Comesa-led delegation to the US for the 11th edition of the AGOA forum.

“Businesses will however be going under their own cost and they can register at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) offices or directly through CBC offices,” he said.

AGOA represents US trade and investment policy towards Africa and was set up with the specific objective of increasing and diversifying African exports to the US  market and increasing US investment in Africa.

The AGOA forum brings together over 600 participants including senior US and African officials as well as members of the private sector and civil society.
