Nash Under-17s and Naph Under-13s made up the 55-member team.
Speaking in an interview Nash national head-in-charge Phillip Chikomwe said they were happy with their good showing.
“Our team performed beyond our expectations and I am so proud. I have to single out the girls who really did well, more specifically Primrose Zimunhu and girls’ captain Ruvarashe Mzinde who had four medals apiece,” Chikomwe said.
Zimunhu clinched gold in the 400-metre hurdles race, the 4x400m relay, silver in 400m race and bronze in the 4x100m relay while Mzinde won gold in the 4x400m relay, silver in the 100m dash and bronze in the 4x100m relay and the 200m dash.
Nash president Johnson Madhuku said he was excited by the team’s performance. He said they expected even better results next year.
“The team did well considering our 10-year absence but the best will however, come next year since most of the athletes are eligible to participate next year since they are under the age of 16,” the president said.
The technical team made up of Linda Chivinge, Enesta Svoba, Zebedia Kubvorundo and Kudzayi Gonorenda also expressed their satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“We are happy that we came second and we are grateful to Nash for organising the trip and we hope the team will continue training,” said their spokesperson Chivinge.
Girls’ captain Mzinde also expressed gratitude to Nash for organising the trip and said their performance proved Zimbabweans were a force to reckon with when it comes to sports.
Meanwhile, Naph national president Phillip Rudanda said they learnt a lot at the competition.
“We are so happy for contributing in lifting the nation’s flag high and we learnt that we too can make big contributions nationally and regionally,” he said.
