Econet on Thursday suspended interconnection services to NetOne accusing the State-owned operator of repudiating an agreement between the two parties.
Econet has, however, temporarily restored the services pending an urgent High Court hearing this week.
Ball Joints manager Mr Ephraim Makara told this paper that the disconnection of services had disrupted operations as they could not communicate with clients and suppliers.
“The business sector needs communication to move and we are trying by all means to get our country to be economically stable, but the two mobile service providers fail to read that.
“It is not fair to the business sector because on Thursday a lot of business transactions did not happen as a result of failing to access network coverage from both operators,” said Makara.
He also said NetOne had the best coverage in rural areas and termination of interconnection services affected people in these areas more.
Consumer Council of Zimbabwe regional manager Mr Comfort Muchekeza said it is a sad and unfortunate situation because everyone was losing out.
“The two companies are equally losing business because the real beneficiary who is the consumer has no connection to another consumer.
“Just terminating off is not the best thing to have been done, it is not in the best interest of the beneficiaries,” he said.
Mr Muchekeza urged the two mobile service providers to sit down and come up with a payment plan and use their respective lawyers in such instances.
