KADOMA businessman Jameson Rushwaya has been summoned before a Chinhoyi magistrate for defaulting on child maintenance amounting to $72 000.
Rushwaya (48), who is cited in court papers as a director at Tolrose Mine in Kadoma, is facing allegations of failing to deposit $1 500 every month for the upkeep of his two children (aged 17 and 15) from May 2012 to February 2016.
The order for maintenance was granted on May 30, 2012 following an application by Beatrice Mupinda a custodian and niece to the children after their mother’s death.
Rushwaya appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Miss Brenda Dhliwayo on charges of contravening sections of the Maintenance Act by failing to pay maintenance. He was remanded out of custody to today for trial.
According to prosecutor Mr Tinashe Dzvore, Rushwaya has not deposited $1 500 every month as directed by the courts, resulting in arrears of $71 600.
The order was to the effect that Rushwaya deposits the money in an Agribank account every month until the children are 18 years of age or when they become self-sufficient.
