A GWANDA businessman has been fined $100 for assaulting another man over a $2 debt. Nkululeko Moyo (33) of village six in Enyandeni area under Chief Masuku in Gwanda District was yesterday arraigned before Gwanda magistrate Ms Sheila Nazombe to answer to charges of assaulting Mr Louis Nkala (26) of Lumene area.

Moyo was convicted on his own plea of guilty and fined $100 or 30 days in prison. According to court records, on 12 May this year at around 7pm at Stanmore Business Centre, Moyo had a misunderstanding with the complainant’s sister, Ms Siphethile Ncube
(34) over a debt of $2 and his bicycle which was taken by Mr Ncube.

The misunderstanding led to Moyo assaulting Ms Ncube which then drew the complainant’s attention and resulted in him intervening in the matter to rescue his sister.

This did not go down well with Moyo who then turned to Mr Ncube and assaulted him with open hands and fists. The matter was reported to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.

Mr Edward Ndlovu prosecuted.
