A HARARE businessman, Peter Simon Sini, allegedly lost US$5,000 to two suspected hookers at Evitro Club at Belgravia Sports Club.

On October 24, Sini was drinking beer in the company of Brenda Muchingwe, 27, and Paida Muchina, 24, at Evitro Club.Muchingwe allegedly stole his wallet containing US$5,000.

The two women, who are from Redcliff, Kwekwe, appeared in court yesterday, facing theft charges.

They appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.

The court heard that after stealing the wallet Muchingwe gave it to Muchina before they both disappeared from the scene.

They will be back in court today after their lawyer challenged their placement on remand. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man from Chikanga in Mutare was this week sentenced to 10 months in prison for stealing and abusing his employer’s company bank card.

He was caught on CCTV footage making unauthorised transactions.

Five months were suspended.

The remaining five months were converted to 170 hours of community service, which he will perform at Chikanga Primary School.

Kudzai Masikati, who was employed as a manager at Mimach Restaurant in Mutare, appeared before magistrate Annie Ndiraya facing a theft charge.

He did not deny the allegations.

Prosecutor Thurston Mubvumbi told the court that on October 24, at around 8am, an employee of Mimach Restaurant, discovered that the restaurant’s NMB bank card, which had ZiG$420,339, had been stolen while he was at Eastgate Market in Harare.

It was later established that on the same day, Masikati had taken the card and began conducting a series of unauthorised transactions.

“Mimach Restaurant’s NMB account continued to be credited with money while the accused person went on debiting funds from the stolen card,” said Mubvumbi.

The court heard that on October 26, the Mimach Restaurant administrator was alerted that the stolen card had been used at a supermarket in Mutare.

Police attended the scene and, upon reviewing the CCTV footage, identified Masikati as the person who was using the stolen card.

He was subsequently arrested and he led officers to the recovery of the card, which was produced in court as an exhibit.

Magistrate Ndiraya noted that Masikati was a first-time offender, who did not deny the charge and had restituted the stolen amount.
