Businessman nabbed for raping cousins for chips

Police have arrested a Gweru businessman who allegedly lured two 15-year-old cousins to his workplace, spent a night with them and raped them several times.The suspect, George Phillipus Jacobs Vender, 57, later bought some fresh chips and chicken at a fast food outlet and gave the teenagers in a bid to buy their silence.

Vender, whose address was given as Watten Motors, Light Industries, was on Wednesday arraigned before Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing two counts of rape.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to next Tuesday.

Prosecuting, Helen Khosa told the court that last Saturday at about 2PM, the two teenagers from Senga suburb went to Kombayi vegetable market to buy some vegetables.

The court heard that Vender spent the whole night with the girls at his garage during which he raped both girls. In a state of panic, the teenagers’ parents made a report at Senga Police Station of the missing girls.  However, the two girls returned home on the following morning.

The two narrated their ordeal at the hands of Vender. The matter was reported to the police leading to Vender’s arrest.
