One of Zimbabwe’s first indigenous entrepreneurs, Aaron Hapagarwi Samuriwo, has died.
He was 89.
Samuriwo succumbed to heart failure at Trauma Centre and Hospital in Harare on Tuesday.
Samuriwo is father to one of the first three pilots in Zimbabwe, Charles.
Family spokesperson Ms Abigail Samuriwo said mourners are gathered at No. 13 Ecstien Road in Marlborough.
“People will leave for our rural home in Chihota, Mashonaland East, tomorrow (today) ahead of his burial on Saturday,” she said.
“Father struggled with a heart problem for a long time and we would travel to South Africa for treatment. He started his transport business after independence and owned buses. He opened Samuriwo Shopping Centre in Mufakose where he stayed and his businesses spread to Karoi, Guruve and Chinhoyi.”
Abigail added that her brother Charles, second born child to Samuriwo, was among the first black pilots in the country.
Samuriwo is survived by his wife, 10 children, 52 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
