Businessman sells family farm

A CHIPINGE businessman is up in arms with his young brother after he sold a 15-hectare family farm for US$15 000.

Moses Magora, who runs a motor spares business in Chipinge, is now evicting his sibling, Godfrey from the farm on account that as the eldest son he is entitled to solely owning it.

Moses has already served Godfrey with eviction papers through his lawyer, Mr Langton Mhungu of Mhungu Law Firm.

According to the eviction notice, which this paper has in its possession, Moses identifies himself as the legal owner of Wedgehill Farm as it was put in his name by their late father.

The notice states that Godfrey was only allowed to stay on the farm by his brother on a temporary basis in 2008, and was now refusing to vacate the farm.

However, Godfrey is resisting the eviction, citing that the farm belongs to their father.

He said his brother was being unfair and selfish in evicting him as he had mechanised his part of the farm.

“I am being ordered to vacate our father’s farm by my brother yet it does not belong to him. We are three boys in our family and have been sharing the farm, with each of us using five hectares. I have already developed my piece and it is now productive.

“I was surprised to be served with the eviction notice after realising that our brother had sold the farm for US$15 000 to a man based in the United States of America. I am currently seeking legal advice on how to handle the matter so that justice prevails,” said Godfrey.
