FOUR Cabinet Ministers are expected to attend the inaugural Zimbabwe Water Indaba being hosted by the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) at a Bulawayo hotel today.
The Ministers are expected to deliver remarks during the three-day conference, which brings together policymakers, researchers, development partners, the private sector, communities and young people to discuss Zimbabwe’s water challenges and opportunities.
Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development Dr Anxious Masuka is expected to deliver the keynote address and officially open the Indaba.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Judith Ncube will deliver the welcome remarks, followed by opening remarks from the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Dr Frederick Shava.
Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe will then address delegates, while Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube is expected to round off the ministerial presentations.
The Indaba is being held under the theme: “Building Zimbabwe’s Water Future: Innovation, Collaboration and Action for Sustainable Water Security.”
The conference began on Wednesday and ends tomorrow.
Opening the Indaba on Wednesday, Nust Vice-Chancellor Professor Mqhele Dlodlo said sustainable water management was critical to the country’s socio-economic development.
He said climate change, population growth, urbanisation and infrastructure deficits were placing increasing pressure on Zimbabwe’s water systems.
Professor Dlodlo called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders and greater use of innovative approaches to address the country’s water challenges and ensure sustainable water security.
