beer on the bar walls, was last week jailed for 10 months.
Karoi magistrate Mr Elisha Singano had initially sentenced Solomon Bere (30), owner of Travellers Den Bottle Store at Doro Business Centre near Magunje Growth Point, to 15 months for kidnapping Esau Gweshe.
He suspended five months of the sentence for the next five years on condition of good behaviour.
Mr Singano slapped Bere with an option of a US$100 fine or two months in jail for assaulting Gweshe.
Bere’s assault and kidnapping charges arose on the night of April 15 this year when Gweshe, who was on the dance floor mistakenly bumped into another patron, Tambudzai Mazengwe (35) resulting in her opaque beer spilling.
Prosecutor, Mr Benjamin Negato, said the incident did not go down well with Bere, who was also enjoying himself on the dance floor.
He grabbed Gweshe and dragged him to one of the windows in the bar, where he assaulted him and handcuffed his left hand to a burglar bar.
When closing time came, Bere locked the doors of the bar and left Gweshe groaning in pain while shackled.
He spent the whole night in the bar.
Other patrons phoned Detective Constable Mashatise of CID Karoi, who was in the area on that day.
Constable Mashatise phoned Bere advising him to release Gweshe as he was committing a serious offence.
Bere did not take heed and only released Gweshe at about 5am the following day after police at Magunje had come to investigate the matter.
Police also recovered the pair of handcuffs used to commit the crime while Gweshe sustained wounds on his left hand.
