Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena confirmed the incident, saying the kidnappers are believed to be also of Chinese origin.
He said the father and son were carrying US$27 000 when they were kidnapped.
Snr Asst Comm Bvudzijena said the businessman aged 41 and his 24-year-old son were abducted in Milton Park last Friday afternoon.
“The two were driving in a Mercedes-Benz when a vehicle driven by the five suspects — in a typical movie style — suddenly blocked the vehicle forcing them to stop,” said the chief police spokesman.
The businessman and his son, whose names were not given, were bundled into the suspects’ vehicle that sped off.
“The other suspects followed using the businessman’s car,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Bvudzijena said the two were taken to an unknown location in Harare where they were detained for four days.
The kidnappers, he said, on Tuesday freed the two and dumped them in Hatfield.
