Businessman ‘threatens’ to kill wife

Munyaradzi Shava, whose age was not given, but resides at Number 9 Pingston Road, Kumalo, and is the owner of Liquor Café and Sports Bar situated at the corner of Fife Street and 3rd Avenue allegedly threatened to beat his wife, Ms Judith Jumbe (41), when she told him to stop bringing his girlfriend, identified as Sibonile, to the shop.
Ms Jumbe had also asked for money to pay domestic workers but instead of giving her the money, Shava allegedly started shouting at her and insulting her.
The two are customarily married but stay separately.
Ms Jumbe stays at 22 Kipling Drive, Malindela.
The incident occurred on 14 December at the café amid reports that Shava had been refusing to release money to pay their domestic workers for the past five months.
Shava allegedly now spends time with the girlfriend Sibonile, which irked Ms Jumbe who decided to confront him.
Shava allegedly insulted and called her a dog and said: “I will kill you one day if you continue like that.”
Shava was yesterday arraigned before Bulawayo magistrate Mrs Sophie Matimba to answer to a charge of violating some sections of the Domestic Violence Act after making threats of violence.
He was not asked to plead although he indicated that he would deny the charges.
Shava was remanded out of custody to 12 January on $30 bail.
Appearing for the State, Mr Malvern Nzombe told the court that on 14 December, at about 9am, Ms Jumbe went to the shop and found her husband in the storeroom counting money.
When she informed him she wanted money to pay domestic workers who had gone for five months without receiving their salaries, Shava reportedly told her he had no money for that.
The court heard that he further told her that he did not care whether they got their money or not and started calling her a dog.
All hell broke loose when Ms Jumbe told her husband to stop bringing his girlfriend Sibonile to their shop upon which he started insulting her more and threatening to kill her in front of workers.
