Businesswoman loses US$6k in robbery

A HARARE businesswoman lost goods worth more than US$6 000 to thieves who broke into her shop on Tuesday night.

The thieves broke into Bridget Makoni’s shop along Bank Street through the roof and stole some cash and 48 cellphones.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said they were investigating the burglary.

He said Makoni lost cash and goods worth US$6 359 and nothing was recovered.

In another case, Fanuel Mafungata (45), a security guard at Rera Business Centre, was attacked by robbers who broke into a butchery and stole cash and other goods.

“The security guard was with his workmate, Nelson Mhute (38) when they saw a white Nissan Caravan with no registration plates parked at his workplace.

“He approached the vehicle to verify the purpose of the visit, and that is when three men came out of the vehicle armed with iron bars and threatened to kill him.

“The three men tied the security guard’s hands and legs with cellphone charger cables and left him under guard by one of the accused.

“They used iron bars and other objects to break the screen door and burglar bars, gained entry and stole various goods, which included a CCTV decoder, biltong, cash US$129 and some juice.

“The accused then went to a bar and struck Nelson Mhute with an iron bar, tied him with an electric cable and took his cellphone,” said Insp Chakanza.
