THREE Gwanda men allegedly robbed a local businesswoman of 34,000 rand after threatening to axe her. Thembeni Moyo, 47, surrendered the cash after being threatened by Washington Muzenda, 20, Fortunate Ncube, 39, and Elijah Fredrick Gordon, 33, of Sigodo village.
Ncube and Gordon are also murder suspects who are out on bail. The three appeared before Gwanda magistrate Sheila Nazombe yesterday facing charges of armed robbery and were remanded in custody to February 12 for trial at the regional court.
Prosecuting, Gertrude Zvidzai told how on Saturday (January 25) at around 11PM the three men went to Arnold Moyo, the complainant’s son who was having supper in the kitchen.
“They threatened to kill him with an axe and he submitted to their demand by handing over R7,000 before jumping through the window and running for dear life. The trio proceeded to the complainant’s bedroom and found her awake after hearing the noise from the kitchen,” Zvidzai said.
“They threatened the complainant with death while demanding money. She handed over R27,000 and they locked her inside the bedroom before running away.”
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the three and R2,800 was recovered from Muzenda who has another robbery case to answer.
He is alleged to have robbed Charles Bere of number LDU 40 in Blanket Mine of about $600 and some cell phones.
