Busters clinch Independence Cup

MATABELELAND Busters drubbed Old Miltonians in a Matabeleland Rugby Football Board organised Independence Challenge Cup final match played at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo yesterday.

The tournament was used by the four clubs in the city to celebrate 35 years of Zimbabwe’s independence.
Busters scored seven tries, four conversions and one penalty goal while OMs did not manage any points throughout the match.

Flyhalf Tarisai Mugariri opened the scoring for Busters with a penalty goal which was followed by tries from Tichaona Musariri, Mugariri, Bradley Dickerson, Lloyd Machanjaira and Jan Ferreira as Busters led 32-0 going into the halftime break.

Further tries from Peter Symons and Hardlife Masunda in the second half saw Busters record a comprehensive win over their city rivals.

In the semifinals, OMs won 5-0 over Western Panthers while Busters trounced Police Bulldogs 39-0.
Local schools Milton and Gifford who are gearing up for the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival in Harare played each other at Under-16 and first team level. Gifford Under-16s saw off their Milton counterparts 7-5 while the Milton first team came from 12-0 down to defeat Gifford 19-15.
