Busy schedule for traditional, faith healers

The Zimbabwe National Practitioners Association (ZINPA) has come up with a tight schedule of workshops, awareness campaigns and meetings for traditional healers, midwives and faith healers for this year.

Workshops that will tackle child marriages, leadership skills and the eradication of ritual killings have been lined up.

Apart from the association’s annual general meeting, which is slated for 19 October, the practitioners are also set to participate in breast cancer awareness campaigns.

Worldwide, the month of October is set aside as breast cancer awareness month.

ZINPA vice-president Sarudzai Jaravaza said gone were the days when traditional healers would only focus on attending to their clients.

“As traditional and faith healers, we are moving with the times. Government requires us to take part in awareness campaigns since we are an integral part of the health delivery system,” Jaravaza said.

She said the majority of the association’s programmes were held in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
