Busy weekend as Urban Culxure celebrates four years

Nkululeko Nkala

One finds weekends when absolutely nothing is happening in Bulawayo and you wonat even know what to do. There are also those weekends when one is spoilt for choice and you actually wish to split yourself into parts. Today is one such day.

In the morning, Urban Culxure will be celebrating four years at the American Corner then at 6pm all roads lead to The Bulawayo Club where Bulawayo Arts Awards are launching BAA 2018 along with announcing new categories and engaging partners.

Clive Chigubhu will be at Rainbow Hotel with his new one man play and Devine Assignments who run Club 263, Club Connect and Private Lounge will be celebrating winning Promoter Of The Year Award at the recently held National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) event alongside other winners from Bulawayo.

The Club Connect event is Free and winners and nominees will be treated to a 70 percent discount on alcohol and other treats. Wow!

Founded four years ago, Urban Culxure Magazine (UC) has been growing from strength to strength. The highlight of their existence is their introduction of the Bulawayoas 100 Most Influential Personalities list. This listA always evokes different emotions and reactions from the Bulawayo public.

Last year and even this year, many were excited, some angered and a number wanted to make it onto the list. Itas from that rankings list that the magazine got noticed on the arts scene. The local publication continued to impress through featuring and showcasing many successful and inspiring artistes from Bulawayo. To be honest they are now at a point we just canat ignore them.

Their fourth year celebrations will this morning start with a dialogue at the Nust American Space today. Kudakwashe Takundwa (Founder) and Keith K. Moyo (Content Manager) will take time to reflect on the past and the journey ahead. If I say they have been a perfect magazine I will be lying, they have over the years either been making friends or enemies sometimes in equal measure. Friend or foe we all love them for their honesty and creativity.

Here are some of their notable deeds: In 2017 they created what they called The Mafia List. I was one of those mentioned in the article. It was damaging to say the least and I pretty much know all the other mentioned a?Mafiaa? as just ordinary hard working gentlemen.

I was angry I called the founder and he explained it was the words of people on the streets. True a false, the article generated interestA because there are actually many people who sided with it.
