BUTCHIE Boy won the 2017 edition of the ZNA Charity Jacaranda Free Handicap at Borrowdale Park after he got the better of five other top runners in the 1 200 metres race on Sunday. Bridget Stidolph stable saddled the first two with Butchie Boy, finishing a length in front of his stable companion, Flanders, who was giving the winner three kilograms.
The Crusade (USA) gelding has now won twice and been placed five times in seven starts and managed to beat pre-race favourite Flanders. He is owned by Sunmark Racing Syndicate (Nominee Mr R.E. Davenport) and was bred by Fitzgerald. Brendon McNaughton was in the irons. Third place went to Sail From Sibaya, while Nedo Nadi disappointed his supporters this time around, finishing four lengths behind Butchie Boy.
Bridget Stidolph had a strong hand with this pair who were the most experienced runners.Flanders had won four of his five starts in Harare, finishing third last time out behind Peggson and Butchie Boy over 1600 meters. This was the second time for Butchie Boy to beat Flanders after he also managed to finished in front of his stable mate in the last meeting.
The other race on the day the Moonlight Funeral was won by Coachella, out by the Stidolph yard as well. The four-year-old gelding”s regular jockey, Fanie Chambers, was in the irons. Owned by John Koumides and bred by Professor I. M. Sanne, Coachella won the 1100m MR 95 Handicap by a comfortable 2,50 lengths, with Life Is Good, Wylde Style and Sheik’s Brashee in the minor places. This was Coachella’s fifth win from 12 starts. He has also placed five times. Congratulations to the winning connections.
