Buy Zimbabwe has appointed Portia Muzorava, popularly known as Mambokadzi weSungura, as its new Brand Ambassador, in a move expected to inject cultural pride, energy, and visibility into the campaign to promote locally made goods.
In a statement, Buy Zimbabwe described Muzorava as a seasoned media personality and influential cultural icon whose brand resonates deeply with Zimbabwean identity.
“Her role will be to spearhead Buy Zimbabwe’s insignia promotion and consumer awareness programmes, ensuring that the insignia becomes widely recognised as a mark of quality, trust, local content, sustainability and national pride on all products which carry it,” said the organisation.
The insignia, which is legally protected, represents quality products that are environmentally sustainable and locally manufactured.
Her appointment comes at a strategic time as Buy Zimbabwe gears up for two major partnership events — the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, the country’s premier platform for showcasing products and innovations, and YAFEST, a celebration of the 10th anniversary of regional station YAFM, which broadcasts across Matabeleland South, Midlands and Masvingo.
“Both events provide important opportunities to highlight the products and services of Buy Zimbabwe’s members, and Portia will play a key role in amplifying these initiatives,” the statement added.
Muzorava said she was honoured to join the campaign, pledging to use her influence to push the Buy Zimbabwe vision.
“As Mambokadzi weSungura, I have always celebrated Zimbabwean culture and identity. This role allows me to take that passion further by championing Zimbabwean products and services.
“Every time we buy Zimbabwean, we empower communities, create jobs, and strengthen our economy. I am honoured to be part of this journey and will work to make the Buy Zimbabwe insignia a household symbol of excellence and pride,” she said.
Buy Zimbabwe Chairman, Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere, said Muzorava embodies the spirit and energy needed to grow the local industry.
“Her influence will help us reach wider audiences, deepen consumer awareness, and ensure greater visibility of our insignia and member products. This appointment marks a new chapter in our journey to grow Zimbabwe by buying local.
“With Portia joining the Buy Zimbabwe campaign, we are confident that the insignia promotion will gain stronger visibility, consumer awareness will grow, and our local products will receive the recognition they deserve,” said Mr Hwengwere.
