Buy Zimbabwe sports, fun festival

The sports and fun festival set for Saturday December 8, is an avenue for local industry and the country’s leading tertiary institutions to establish societal camaraderie in a way that promotes pride, wealth and jobs in Zimbabwe.

The sports and fun festival strives to promote physical development and social interaction between all our stakeholders in an affable and competitive atmosphere with a matter of fun and recreation.

Developed to boldly state the “ZIMBHO” brand meaning “Everything is OK in Zimbabwe”, the event seeks to unite Zimbabweans from all walks of life. Those who have already confirmed their attendance have particularly expressed their interest in the 10km marathon, the CEO’s 100m challenge, the Buy Zimbabwe Marketers 100m and the Soccer challenge.

A particular challenge goes to our leading executives to take part in the CEO’s 100m race, which might prove to be a burner, especially if we have more action in the heat stages.

Then there is obviously the tug-of-war for the strong and strong-at-heart. To add to the element of fun, we have also added what have been popularly termed FUN-ATTIC games which are literary Buy Zimbabwe partner customised games with a twist of fun and child-like naughtiness in them.

These include food eating competitions, drinking competitions, heavyweight relays etc.
For children we shall have jumping castles, water slides, zorbing balls, the works so it is really fun for the whole family at the University grounds on December 8. For Buy Zimbabwe the partnership with the University of Zimbabwe in hosting this event could not have been better timed. We are just coming out of an entrepreneurship television reality show, My Own Boss season IV, where show winner Godwin Gogwe and fellow contestants proved the immense talent that young people have in Zimbabwe in contributing to the economic development of Zimbabwe.

The mentorship programme during the show also showed us how important it is to bridge the gap between our leading executives and the youths to ensure economic sustainability. There is no doubt that tertiary institutions are the leading source of human capital with the potential to vastly improve the productivity of the country. The irony, however, is that despite some efforts being made, there still exist a gap between business and tertiary institutions. It is very important that we harness this inert potential. I recall speaking to a very passionate UZ engineering student during this year’s Zim-Build Expo who informed me that as students they have been working on smart solutions to improve ethanol fuel production in the country. I was particularly impressed by their research into diesel blending. My point is, let us have as many corporates coming through on the December 8 for a networking event with a difference.

Some of the brilliant students that we have at the University of Zimbabwe and numerous other tertiary institutions that will be available on the day actually have solutions to the issues that we have been grappling with in business.

I am certain that we have all read about the EcoCash e-commerce solutions that have been suggested by 21-year-old UZ student Sam Takunda. So, clearly our tertiary institutions are not short of the necessary human capital to transform our economy.

We encourage as many people as possible to come to the UZ sports grounds since this event is more than just about networking in a fun, competitive environment but it is also an opportunity for Zimbabwe to celebrate the pride of being “ZIMBHO”.

The truth is that we rarely do this and I feel this is a challenge that has been cast upon us to show our true mantle as folks who are proud of what we do as a nation. The ZIMBHO brand that was launched by My Own Boss contestants will be on full display during the sports and fun festival. My encouragement to everyone attending or not attending the festival is to purchase any one of the ZIMBHO branded merchandise. Looking good makes us proud of who we are and looking good is “ZIMBHO.” For those interested in the merchandise you can get in touch with Chido on 0773 881 046 or 04-252027 or simply buy from the Buy Zimbabwe stand during the festival.
Till next week . . . God Bless.
