THE Bulawayo Volleyball Association has postponed, by a week, its preseason Open tournament that was set to be held at White City Stadium this weekend.
In a communique to clubs, provincial secretary general Munyaradzi Chigudu said the reason for the postponement was due to clearance logistics with the motherbody Zimbabwe Volleyball Association as well as the Sports and Recreation Commission.
“The association advises of the postponement of the pre-season tourn. This has been due to clearance process with Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) and Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in line with Covid-19 protocols.
The tournament will now be held on the 19th and 20th of March at White City Stadium volleyball grounds. This implies that the prescriptions in the previously issued invitation letter are extended by a week,” said Chigudu.
Clubs that have so far confirmed participation include Highlanders, Spartans, Lycans and Chimoyo, all from Bulawayo as well as Harare based Black Rhinos and Shalom Ballers from the resort City of Victoria Falls.
With the postponement, organisers will be hoping that more clubs will now come on board for the tournament that will then mark the official start of the 2022 volleyball season.
Besides the reasons given for the postponement, a possible clash on the venue with the police who are having their annual ZRP Commissioner General Sports Gala could also be another factor that forced the postponement of the BVA tournament.
The ZRP Gala kicks off today until Sunday with volleyball pencilled for White City Stadium volleyball grounds.
