Bvekerwa wins U20 100m event

Board selection meet at the University of Zimbabwe on Sunday.
Bvekerwa ran 10.63 seconds to scoop the title while Damlan Mathews clocked 10.89 seconds to finish in second position and Tashinga Chitambira came third in 10.90 seconds.
Windy Malenga from Eiffel Flats clinched the title in the girls’ section when she ran 12.53 seconds and Melody Tukuta of Dzivarasekwa settled for second place in 15.37 seconds.
In the senior men’s category Franco Zimwara of SLAC ran 10.33 seconds to win the event while African Youth Championships silver medalist Tinashe Mutanga finished in second place on 10.49 seconds.
Emmanuel Mupanduki came third in 10.58 seconds.
After finishing second in the 100m event, Mutanga went on to win the senior men 200m event in 22.03 seconds while Dilan Rensburg came second in 22.28 seconds and Tranolta Dube finished in third place in 22.29 seconds
Tamla Pietersen scooped the title in the senior women’s section in 12.37 seconds and Cara Tom was second in 13.01 seconds while Precious Mujuru settled for third place in 13.28 seconds.

The competition was used as a platform by the provincial board to select the Under-20 team for the National Youth Games scheduled for August 13 to 20 in Gwanda.
HAB secretary general Sailus Muringani said the selected athletes will begin their preparations next month.
“We had about 300 athletes competing in the selection event. I can say everything went according to what we were expecting.
“We had athletes from Manicaland and Mashonaland West and Harare athletes came in their numbers. We were looking at the Under-20 and we picked 75 athletes but we are going to trim down the number to 25 for each category (boys and girls).
“This is just the beginning. We will start the preparations on the first week of July,” said Muringani.

Jona Takuva (Dzivarasekwa 2 High) 4.46.16 minutes, Gigash Murenji (Lord Malvern) 5.17.20 minutes
Under-17 Girls 1 500m:
Arinora Nyamhute (Makoni North) 5.31.67 minutes, Maud Vengesa (Mr Pace) 5.37.40 minutes, Tatenda Ndoro (Mr Pace) 6.29.65 minutes.
Senior Men 800m: Simbarashe Chikadaga (Black Rhinos) 1.56.93 minutes, Irvine Rozi (Effel Flats) 1.58.54 minutes, Shingani Mpala (Effel Flats)2.02.95 seconds.
