THE Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund this week received a timely donation of groceries from the Bweezya Community Foundation, with the food hampers immediately distributed to five institutions caring for some of Bulawayo’s most vulnerable residents.
The donation, made on Wednesday, included mealie meal, sugar, rice, flour, cooking oil and other essential food items.
The Bweezya Community Foundation is led by Proportional Representation Councillor Agnes Munsaka, who serves as its director.
The beneficiary institutions were Ekuphumuleni Old People’s Home, eMthunzini WeThemba Children’s Home, Percy Ibbotson and Luveve Remand Home, Queen Elizabeth Children’s Home and King George VI Centre.
Bulawayo Mayor, Senator David Coltart, presided over the handover ceremony, receiving the donation on behalf of the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund before overseeing its distribution to the institutions.
Speaking at the event, Sen Coltart commended Cllr Munsaka and the Bweezya Community Foundation for supporting vulnerable members of society throughout the year rather than waiting for the annual Christmas appeal.
He encouraged other organisations, companies and well-wishers to emulate the foundation. Cllr Munsaka reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged members of society through sustained community support initiatives.
