Great Zimbabwe University(GZU) has-with immediate effect- temporarily stopped lectures to allow necessary repair work as the fall out from Tuesday night’s devastating hailstorm continues to be felt across Masvingo.
The hiatus comes as the institution has posponed its graduation ceremony that was set for Wednesday after the rampaging hailstorm destroyed structures including the venue.
In a notice this afternoon,GZU said lectures will resume on 12 October.
“Following damage caused by yesterday’s hailstorm across Masvingo province particularly to teaching and learning venues and accommodation facilities,the university has suspended all lectures with immediate effect,”read the statement.
“Lectures will resume on Monday 12 October 2026.”
The university justified ths move to enable repairs to affected facilities while also ensuring safetyof students and staff.
In an earlier announcement, GZU announced the postponement of its graduation ceremony from 7 October to 23 October 2026
