THE Bulawayo National Youth Games basketball team raised a substantial amount at Milton High School over the weekend.
They held a tournament featuring  players who are members of the provincial team. The team fundraised towards buying tracksuits in preparation for the forthcoming Zimbabwe National Youth Games set for the city next month.

It was a rare basketball match as each team had three players.
Heat, Ramblers, Thunder, Nkulumane, Lakers, Convent, JOJO and Wings were the teams that participated.

One of the organisers Sincengile Mzembi said the fundraising went well though the turnout was not what they had anticipated.
“Everything went well, we managed to raise about $200 on the day, and it’s a boost to the teams as they can buy some of the equipment like balls for practice.

“We had a decent crowd, though less than what we hoped for, we would like to thank those who supported us in our activities and made our day a success,” said Mzembi.

The provincial  teams for the Youth Games had practice matches on the same day against clubs.
The boys’ team lost to Oilers 38-26 while the girls lost to Highlanders 25-18.

“It was a huge boost for the teams to play a  competitive match as they have managed to boost their level of confidence despite losses ahead of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games,” said Mzembi.

The Bulawayo girls’ team will clash with Mashonaland West, Mashonaland Central, Manicaland and Mashonaland East in Pool A.
The boys’ team will lock horns with Mashonaland West, Midlands, Mashonaland Central and Matabeleland North in Pool B.
