ITaS a Bulawayo presidium with three officials from the province elected into the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) executive a fortnight ago.
Joe Mujuru was elected president, Skhumbuzo Ndlovu was chosen to be the president of the technical commission while Opportunity Moyo is the president of the women and youth commission.
a?We are very grateful to the provinces especially Bulawayo for offering support and voting for us,a? said BUZ president Joe Mujuru.
The newly elected president highlighted that with the help of his new board they had set a number of plans for 2018 and they hoped to achieve them before the end of the year.
a?This month we are planning to hold a strategic workshop with all our stakeholders from all our provinces so that they shed light to us on what they expect. People in Harare have different needs from the people in Bulawayo and other provinces,a? said Mujuru.
a?People in Harare have in the past highlighted the need for constant international exposure while the people from Bulawayo have requested for infrastructural development and many other things. With such varying needs we have decided to call for this workshop so that we know what each provinceas need IS and find ways to assist them,a? said Mujuru.
Just like the Premier Soccer League, Mujuru highlighted the need for him and his board to work towards having a Basketball National league.
a?We are trying to close the gap that was there before we were elected. Basketball teams were expected to win in their international competitions while they lacked training at national levels.
a?We also noticed an exodus of players from Matabeleland South andHarare dominating our national teams due to the lack of a local national league.
a?The two places have become the major hub to scout talent while we also need players from Matabeleland North and Mashonaland West. I believe a national league will expose talent from these other places,a? added Mujuru. . .
