HIGHLANDERS’ in-form right back Webster Chingodza has been ruled out of the big derby tomorrow against Chicken Inn after picking up three yellow cards, the Premier Soccer League has confirmed. Chingodza, clearly Bosso’s key man so far this season, is one of three players suspended for this weekend’s matches.
“Please note that the player(s) listed,Webster Chingodza (Highlanders), Kelvin Katandika (Dongo Sawmill FC), Marshall Machazane (Whawha FC) have each accumulated three yellow cards and will be suspended for one match respectively. The said player(s) shall not participate in their club’s matchday 10 of the Castle Lager League matches,” said the PSL in a communiqué.
Chingodza picked up yellow cards during the second match of the season against Tsholotsho FC and his second was against Buffaloes before last Sunday’s game against Harare City sealed his fate.
His absence will certainly be felt on the right back, a problem area for Highlanders for the past two seasons. Chingodza seemed to have fit in well. Gifted with immense dribbling skills for a defender, the former Tripple B player is good when defending and deadly when attacking along the line.
Bongani Mafu, the Highlanders coach might throw in utility player Erick Mudzingwa or ginger haired Welcome Ndiweni. Simon Munawa is another option. Mudzingwa though is subject to a late fitness test together with striker Obidiah Tarumbwa.
Chicken Inn will also be without dependable midfielder Danny “Deco” Phiri who is with the Cosafa senior national team but that should not be a cause for concern for Joe Antipas, their coach, as gritty Thabani Goredema would hold fort.
