FEMALE artistes from Bulawayo took time to clean up the city on Saturday after being mobilised by Divas in Action Zimbabwe, an organisation whose mission is to promote female artistes by giving them a breakthrough platform.

Bulawayo, since time immemorial, has been known as one of the cleanest cities in the country, something that the artistes wanted to maintain.
Among those who took part in the clean-up along S Parirenyatwa road and 2nd Avenue were Helen Nyati, Novuyo Seagirl, Mimmie Takurwana, Qeqe, Rachel Voko, Pamela Magariro, Nomvula Dube, Jennifer Chiveya, Khetiwe Mathuthu, Stewie La Savage, Rudo Nyoni, Abigal Ncube, Sidumisile Mtetwa, Gugulethu Sibanda, Chelsea Yvonne Chasi, Sharp Chikwanha and William Nyandoro.
After cleaning, the artistes had a luncheon where they mingled and shared ideas.

Versatile artiste, Sarah Dhliwayo Nkala aka Sarah Dee who is behind the Divas in Action brand said it was comforting to see young female artistes teaming up for such a noble cause.
“The event was a success and we hope this will be the beginning of good things to come. Since this was a first of its kind in Bulawayo, I can safely say we achieved what we wanted, that is, people to understand what Divas in Action Zimbabwe is all about.
“We’re grateful for the support we received from the likes of Mr Kawema, Dr Masuku and Tony Musopera who sponsored the event,” said Sarah Dee.
Musician, Helen Nyati said working with other female artistes showed that through unity, they can achieve more.
“It was great working alongside other ladies in cleaning our city. It was empowering and it motivated other people to want to work with us so as to live in a clean place.”
Said Novuyo Seagirl: “The event went well and it was great working with other ladies in making a positive change in our city. More activities like this are crucial. If we continue to work together like this, our future can be bright.”
Mimmie Takurwana said: “It was a good experience and we learnt a lot from each other as young female artistes. Through this initiative, we managed to empower each other. I really loved the concept as I love giving back to the community.”
Divas in Action Zimbabwe is a group of female artistes, both established and up-and-coming. Through their many initiatives, the ultimate goal is to create an environment where female artistes are exposed and appreciated for their talent. – @mthabisi_mthire
