BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province will this week hold the Annual Science, Sports and Arts Festival at White City Stadium.

The festival is scheduled to run from Tuesday to Friday where four categories of activities are lined up with a number of schools set to compete.

Speaking at the Bulawayo Provincial Annual Science, Sports and Arts Festival launch at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex last Thursday, the co-technical director of the Provincial Annual Science, Sports and Arts Festival, Njabulo Bango said some of the festivities will be staged at Mpopoma High School on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We are going to have four categories during the festival which includes performing arts which will be held at Mpopoma High School from 4 to 5 July,’’ he said.

Deputy provincial educational director of primary schools Maphias Luphahla urged the Bulawayo community to take part in the festival in order to encourage the learners.

“For the event to succeed we expect the parents and the public to attend these events, it will be a very good encouragement for the learners when they see their parents and the community attending. If the community attends the events they will be assisted to better understand the revised curriculum,’’ said Luphahla.

Other categories include visual arts, crafts and exhibitions taking place at Northlea High School from 5 to 6 July, while the sports category will be held at various venues.

The Annual Science, Sports and Arts Festival was conceived as a key implementation strategy in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the new curriculum which sought to modernise the education system. The new curriculum was approved by President Mugabe on 22 September last year and put into action in January this year.
