Byo netball team begins Youth Games preparations

The Bulawayo netball team has not won a gold medal since the inception of the Games in 2003 and the best they have done is to win two silver and two bronze medals.
The last bronze medal was won at this year’s edition in Gwanda.
Masvingo and Harare won gold and silver medals respectively.

Team Bulawayo netball manager, Lisa Mangena said they are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to break the jinx of not winning a gold medal in the national Games.
“We started a few months after the Gwanda Games and our preparations were only stopped for the festive holidays and will resume two weeks after schools open,” she said.
Schools are opening on 10 January.

Mangena said they wanted to visit many schools so as to widen the selection base and also increase competition among players.

“We realised that some provinces have  strong netball sides because they are always playing and some of their players play   in provincial leagues hence are always fit while here we rely heavily on the schools calendar   which is always during the second term,” said Mangena.
