BULAWAYO Polytechnic will seek to cut short Bulawayo Chess Club (BCC’s) lead at the top of the log standings when the league enters Day Five at Ross Camp Primary School on Saturday.BCC have now collected 39 game points with only one defeat while Bulawayo Polytechnic is second on 29 points.
The technical students did not play on Day Four as they were on bye while BCC edged Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and the ZRP Bulawayo teams.
ZPCS were thrashed 6-0 while the ZRP Bulawayo A side was beaten 4-1 with their second string side ZRP B team losing 5-1.
Bulawayo Chess Association spokesperson Russell Dzute said they expect a very competitive round as the league is progressing smoothly.
“Teams are improving every time, so we expect a competitive round of games especially between the top four teams – BCC, Nust, ZRP and Bulawayo Polytechnic,” said Dzute.
Dzute said the title race is still wide open despite BCC enjoying a 10-point lead.
“The league is still open, we have more games to play and any of the top four teams still has a chance to win the title,” he said.
