THE second day of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games being hosted in Bulawayo saw a determined Bulawayo girls’ soccer team thrashing Mashonaland West 4-1 in the host province’s third game played at Barboufields stadium yesterday.
On the score sheet for Bulawayo was Sibonginkosi Nleya, who scored a hat-trick with Privilege Mupeti scoring the other goal that sunk the Mashonaland West ship.
The consolation goal for the losing side came from Shylet Gweshe.
In other matches played in Group One, Masvingo beat Mashonaland East 1-0 before they succumbed to a 6-1 thrashing by impressive Manicaland side. Mashonaland East beat Mashonaland West 2-0.
In Group Two, Matabeleland North beat Midlands 3-2 while Harare were beaten 3-1 by Mashonaland Central. Harare later fell to Midlands 1-0. In Matabeleland North’s second game of the day, they fell 2-1 to Matabeleland South.
Matabeleland South coach Mgcini Dewa said he was happy with his team’s play as they had vastly improved compared to their performance in the past.
“I am happy with my team’s play,” he said.
Matabeleland South have played three matches, drawing 0-0 with Harare before falling 2-5 to Mashonaland Central.
