BULAWAYO will host another junior tennis tournament next week as authorities step up efforts to see more competitions being held at the lower level. The African Aces Junior Circuit is scheduled for the Bulawayo Athletic Club. The organiser of the event, Adam Joelson said the tourney was targeting the Under-12 and Under-14 age groups. The competition is being organised in partnership with Zimbabwe number one player Takanyi Garanganga’s organisation, Serve 4 Africa. The city has played host to three junior tournaments, the Bulawayo Open, the Tarryn-Leigh De Souza Memorial and the ITF/CAT Africa Junior Circuit.

“The more tournaments young players participate in the better for their growth hence we want as many tournaments as possible. This is a national tournament with any Under-12 and Under-14 players welcome to register for the tourney which will run from 17 to 19 June,” said Joelson.

Serve 4 Africa was started three years ago by Garanganga with the aim of promoting tennis throughout the continent through tournaments, programmes and training clinics. It is the first time Serve 4 Africa is holding a tourney in Bulawayo with one having been held in Harare in April.

Zimbabwe played second fiddle to South Africa during the recently held ITF/CAT African Circuit at the Bulawayo Country Club and lack of tournaments was cited as one of the reasons for the lacklustre performance by local players.
