Byo to revamp Youth Centres

Sports Reporter
BULAWAYO City Mayor Martin Moyo says the local authority will refurbish its Youth Centres as part of the sports development programme. He was speaking at an i-believe basketball tournament held at Girls College over the weekend as part of the breast cancer awareness campaign.

Youth centres are mostly found in old suburbs such as Pumula Old, Tshabalala, Njube, Mpopoma, Sizinda and Luveve. These are multi-purpose sporting venues which have gymnasiums, basketball courts, table tennis and karate halls.

Shortage of equipment and lack of maintenance have seen them become white elephants. Moyo said it was their duty as the city fathers to support sports development.

“As city fathers it is our duty to support these youngsters as sport builds a person and it keeps youths away from wayward behaviour,” he said
